On July 22, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, the Vice-President of the German Bundestag, visited the Lutheran Church of St. Paul in Odessa. She came to the city to familiarize herself with its current situation, negotiate further assistance needed for its defense and recovery, and learn about the effects of the grain blockade.
Katrin Göring-Eckardt is an active parishioner of the Church. During 2009-2013, she sat in the presidium of the Synod of the Evangelical Church of Germany and participates in the life of numerous church-based organizations and institutions.
Iurii Baidelshpakher, the head of the congregation’s council, and deacon Oleksandr Zhakun gave the honored guest a little tour around the church of St. Paul. The organ part was performed by Olena Udras. The visit took place with the support of Oleksandr Kifak, the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Odessa.
