GELCU recognizes and confesses the Holy Scriptures of Old and New Testaments to be the only source and infallible standard of all Church doctrine and practice, and holds the Apostolic, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, as well as Lutheran confessions, particularly the Augsburg Confession and the Small Catechism by Dr. Martin Luther, to be true and clear interpretation of the Word of God.
