From May 2 to 4, the church center of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in the village of Petrodolynske hosted the fifth seminar of the lector training course on the topic “Lutheran Identity and Spiritual Formation.” Believers from six congregations of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine took part in the event: Petrodolynske, Novogradkivka, Odesa, Vinnytsia, and Kyiv (St. Martin’s congregation).

The seminar was aimed at familiarizing the participants with Lutheran teaching on Law and Gospel, the Sacraments, and the Church of Christ from the perspective of the Confessional Books. In addition, the seminar included elements of spiritual formation, Bible study, discussions on prayer practices, the concept of serving one another, and the importance of personal testimony of faith.

It was a short but God-blessed time of learning and reflection together!
*The lector’s ministry in the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine primarily consists of leading worship services without Holy Communion in the absence of a pastor, using a sermon prepared by a pastor or deacon. This ministry ensures that regular worship services can be held even without a resident pastor. By agreement with the pastor, the lector may also assist in services or lead Bible study groups. Only full members of the GELCU who have received initial theological education and have a calling from God and the congregation may serve as lectors.
